After an extensive search, we purchased Placido from Houghton Hall Alpacas in early 2019 as a rising two year old. He has matured into an upright, powerful and conformationally correct working male with a calm non contentious character that make him easy to work with. His progeny are dense and fine and have done extremely well in the show ring in 2022.

His sire Bozedown Escapade has had a string of show winnings during his career and Placido's grandsire is the great Jolimont Rodrigo 2 of Bozedown who held an exceptionally fine fleece well into old age. His dam Houghton Perdita was a champion in her own right. Winning Champion White male at the BAS National show in 2019 helped to confirm our selection.

His 2021 fleece is show in the photograph. Expressing good small staple bundling structure with high crimp amplitude and a lovely handle. He has great density, complete lack of visible primary fibres standing proud of his fleece and long staple length. His 4th skirted 2021 saddle fleece weighs 2.3kg with average micron of 22. His second fleece was 18 micron with a CEM of 6.8 which bodes well for long-term fineness and great uniformity of handle throughout his fleece. He exhibits all the good traits needed for a commercial fibre producer for many years to come.

We have 24 of his cria from 2020 and 2021 all with excellent very low micron and CEM including the finest on the farm at 16 micron.

If you are seeing high micron primary hairy bits in your fleeces Placido might well be your man!
