29A Ardrossan Street, Christchurch | | About this breeder: | Our first property was located in Rolleston, about 25 kilometers south of Christchurch. We were on a small life-style block with about half of it dedicated to alpacas (about 1.5 acres) and another 1.5 acres planted in garden. Being on the Canterbury Plains, our prevailing climate was dry hot summers and dry cool winters.
We sold the Rolleston property in December 2006 as our alpacas outgrew the small paddocks. We have purchased a 10 acre section in Fernside (a few kilometers West of Rangiora). We hope to move to the new section late 2007. In the meantime our alpacas are spread across three alpaca farms in the Canterbury area.
We bought our first alpacas late 2002 starting with three breeding females. We have had a lot of pleasure from these girls and their off-spring.
Our herd includes a National Champion and to date our alpacas have won 13 broad ribbons between them including four Supreme Champion titles.
Our aim is to breed high quality light fawn to coloured alpacas. We see high quality alpacas as having excellence in micron, fleece coverage, crimp, conformation, shear weight, consistency of fleece and the ability to hold these qualities for many years.

**We are agisting DEO VOLENTE BILLY, a young black VORAGO son here for 2 years. Although not shown, Billy has all the qualities of a fine true black (not bay-black) stud male: fineness, crimp and wonderful lustre. He's a compact well conformed young male. His first cria arrived on 1st Feb '08 - a beautiful black female out of a light fawn dam. Contact us to make a booking, he's eager to please!!
**Our own stud male: WINDSONG VALLEY ICON (SW) continues to prove he throws "true to type" as his many offspring born here so far are very alike despite being from completely different coloured dams, with one dam being a multi. Almost all have been solid colours in either white or the fawn range with one female shearing 5.8kg at 2nd shear. Most have Icon's wonderful, inquisitive, playful nature and are so easy to handle - an important and often overlooked trait.
Another daughter won 1st Junior Med Fawn at the Manawatu Show last year, beating young females from some very well known sires. We admit he's not good over whites as he can leave fawn markings, but for density, crimp, lustre and usually beautiful fawns, Icon is extremely good.
**We won our first "broad ribbon" at the Horowhenua Show in January with a junior dark brown female out of Willowbank Jupiter (Inti grandson) - she won a Reserve Champion title. We also won 2 firsts with a white Blue Grass Southern Warrior junior female, and are thrilled with our herd's progress.
**Our first garment grown by one of our animals, shorn, carded, hand spun & knitted is being worn. What a joy to be able to say "I'm wearing Kaylee" - this is the ultimate in alpaca ownership, wearing garments from individual fleeces.
**There are many quality pregnant females for sale - in fact, potentially, all our females could be available, but we would tell you which we're reluctant to part with. We believe in being honest in all our dealings, but particularly about their good & bad points, so visit and check them out. You get complete follow-up service at all times as we like to know how our sold animals continue with their development.

We started with three females in June 2000 and now have a mix of our own animals and a number of others agisted and for sale. We also have two stud males, Russian Fudge and Nougat. They both won ribbons at the Royal Show 2001 in Christchurch.
Our aim is to breed top quality animals using the best genetics available and to increase the profile of the alpaca as a viable farming alternative. Our focus is to market alpacas to lifestyle block-holders throughout the southern North Island.

From a solid black huacaya female he has produced a solid (very) dark brown male F1 with very nice lustre and pencilling
From a black huacaya female (white face) he has produced a male with very similar markings to Mum
From a grey huacaya female (white tuxedo) he has produced a stunning F1 black female with white around her face
From a fawn F1 suri female (bit of white on her neck) he has produced a mid brown female cria, with some white markings on her face.
He tends to reproduce the colour of the female he is mated to or darker. Cria's have nice lustre. Two of the four have very nice pencilling indeed for F1 cria. Mr T is a great converter of huacayas to suri.
Spirit (Inca Spiritwalker) is our latest stud male, imported in March from Tasmania. He has no cria on the ground yet. He has had fantastic lustre from the day he was born and has won ribbons against some impressive competition in Australia, prior to being imported. Also, his nature is absolutely fantastic, he is the easiest alpaca I have to handle, but will still mate the females and gets the job done in one or two matings. Everyone who has seen Spirit in the flesh has commented on his great lustre. |
